The result is the ‘Co-Operatie Woon- en Werkkunst’ (Home Furniture and Decoration Co-operative). This co-operative is not about trade and profit, but about inspiration, ambience and perception. Every member of the co-operative puts in their knowledge, creativity and time. Together, they jointly run a shop offering classic home accessories and furniture from the last century as well as gift items. Inside this exceptional building complete with its own gantry, the members work on interior designs for individuals and companies.

Rosa has been open next to the Stedelijk Museum in Schiedam since 1914. The business developed from a small conventional shop into one specialising in floral arrangements. Unusual bouquets and other floral arrangements for a variety of occasions can be bought either at the shop or via the website. However, the wide range of colourful vases by Dutch and foreign artists provides a good excuse to visit Rosa’s in person.

’t Walvis is not a gallery, it is an art shop. People who buy works of art at ’t Walvis can take them home right away. Exhibitions feature known types of art and materials, but also more particular works, like jewellery and glass works. ‘t Walvis art shop is mainly a place for Schiedam artists. It is not limited to the spacious two floors of exhibition space in the Branderssteeg. ’t Walvis also tries to encourage exchanges with foreign artists. The exhibitions change every six weeks.
