Many Schiedammers are active in amateur associations. Drum bands, theatre associations, choirs and orchestras all with a wide repertoire hold concerts and performances throughout the year both in and out of the city’s boundaries.

Shantykoor Stuurloos’ (‘Out of Control’ Shanty Choir) repertoire consists of Dutch medleys and sailors’ songs, though also English shanties. The songs tell of everything that affects the life of a sailor, such as his ship, heavy storms, drunkenness and of course, the women.
The volunteers of the Anthonis Guild honour the tradition of the sack carriers. The guild offers a peek into the live of the 18th century port labourers through a live reconstruction of history. The guild presently consists of eight volunteers. The Anthonis Guild is the only guild in Europe which practices the tradition of sack carriers.
Intorno Ensemble Foundation performs opera and musical theatre in a very original manner. Performances for schools, (local)theatre, concert hall, playhouse and on location.
Stichting Schat Producties (Treasure Productions Foundation) has organised six large outdoor productions since 1988, with spectacular use of unique historical locations in Schiedam. The beautiful locations in the city formed the backdrop for the spectacle.
Toonkunstkoor Schiedam (Musical Choir Schiedam) is a mixed choir, which strives to perform works from a classical repertoire at a high amateur level. During these performances the choir performs works by Bach, Pärt (Magnificat), Purcell, Rheinberher and Schütz.
